Abstract:

The normal human microbiota consists of several microorganisms that have different characteristics. Staphylococcus aureus is one of these microorganisms that can be found in humans because it is present in at least 20% of adults of the species, occurring mainly in the skin and mucous membranes. Although the microorganism lives in harmony, without causing damage, it can become pathogenic due to the occurrence of infections, and when this occurs Staphylococcus aureus seizes the opportunity and expands its action. At present there is a great concern of the cosmetic industry regarding the microbiological activity associated with its products, and in an attempt to avoid this problem, the companies use preservatives, which are used in make-up with the function of increasing the useful life of the products, preventing their deterioration from the development of microorganisms that can cause disease to users. However, the presence of metallic elements in makeup can contribute to the proliferation of microorganisms, even in the presence of preservatives, since these act as nutrients for these organisms. The objective of this work was to study the forms and procedures to process the samples and verify the development of microorganisms, after the use of lipstick by the human being, using as reference the presence of metallic elements in the constitution of the lipstick.
